With the last show finished, I looked at everything we had done and everything that we could improve on. Some of the things that I believe I did well are: characterization, my movements whilst performing and my articulation. The reason why I think my characterization was better than for example, my role as King Duncan and Young Seyward in our previous performance of Macbeth, is that my characters for Love and Information were each different and unique with developed backstories that led them to the moment that is portrayed in the show. My movements were good because I stayed in my light but was not stiff and because I knew where I was supposed to be in every part of the scenes. Finally my articulation was clear and precise. This is something that I have been able to do since the first performance, but more importantly, have been able to maintain during the entirety of this course. All these skills have contributed to what I see as a success.
The reason why my characterization was key is because it allowed me to convey my characters to the audience in a way that they could relate to them. My strong movements which flowed through the scenes allowed there to be a natural and more real feeling to each scene as well as creating visual interest. And with the contribution of my articulation being so strong, everyone in the theatre was able to hear me which created clarity for the audience in terms of the scene and my character.
The area in which I need to improve in is my eye line as I was looking down during most of the performance. This is something that I need to improve on as soon as possible so it does not develop into a habit. Another area that I need to focus on is allowing other people to take control as this is something I tend to do quite a lot. By stepping back from the leadership role I can allow other people to get the opportunity to show what they are capable of.
Overall, the show was a success as we created something together as a group. Although some of the scenes did not go exactly as planned due to a chair falling off stage and it not being replaced as quickly as it could have been, as well as some wardrobe issues and the lack of staging during the first performance, it still worked out. The cast and I were able to adapt well to the staging that was present during the evening performance and made it work with our scenes. The journey towards performing Love and Information has been chaotic but very exciting and the outcome was a successful play that we created as a unity.
