Week 4

My fellow cast members and I had agreed to be off script by week four so we could solely focus on characterization and the final bits of blocking. This seemed very doable and the majority of the cast managed do this but some did not. This slowed down the process as some cast members were still focusing more on their lines than on the work that we had planned for this week. Besides this, the week was fairly uneventful as we just continued to go over the each scene one by one to polish them up before the final performance. Something that I would have liked to do during this final week of rehearsals was a full run-through of the play. My group had tried to do this multiple times but due to a lack of time only came about half-way each time. This resulted in the first half being well rehearsed and having a good flow between scenes whilst the second half was lacking. Another area of improvement would have been to rehearse in the theatre space more frequently and have the final set to familiarize ourselves with. Something else that bothered me during this week was the unnecessary questions that the cast asked me - for example about the set, props and lighting. As I have stated earlier in this blog, this is not my area of expertise and they should have taken these questions to the assistant technical director. These questions could have been avoided entirely as the concepts for the technical aspects of the show had been stated to the entirety of the group on multiple occasions.

Key Strength: My biggest strength this week was patience as I stayed professional during tense situations that could've escalated quickly. To keep this as a strength I will think of the end result during these situations instead of engaging in the conflict.

Key Weakness: My biggest weakness this week was time management as my group was not able to do a full run through of the play due to a lack of planning when we would rehearse which scenes. This is something that I will not have to concern myself about next week as the technical and dress rehearsal times are already set.
